It’s Fall in Chicago and it’s almost pumpkin carving season, have you picked up your pumpkin yet? There’s no better activity than observing Illinois’ changing leaves up close and going pumpkin picking or apple picking while you are at it. Fall is one of my favorite seasons and if you’re planning a trip to Chicago, pumpkin picking and all of the other activities that come along with should be added to your day trip. Here are a few locations that offer a variety of experiences near Chicago so you can find the perfect pumpkin-picking spot near you:
Pumpkin Patches Worth Checking Out near Chicago, Illinois
Tom & Zach’s Pumpkin Patch
Located just an hour from Chicago is Tom and Zach’s Pumpkin Patch in Lockport, Illinois. This family farm has one and a half acres of pumpkins and you only need to pay for the pumpkins you pick. They don’t just have pumpkins for sale, but they also offer white pumpkins, straw bales, and corn stocks. This location is cash only so remember that before you arrive. All Seasons Orchard
An hour northwest of Chicago is All Seasons Orchard located in Woodstock, Illinois. All Seasons Orchard offers pumpkin picking and apple picking to a petting zoo and a corn maze; I couldn’t forget to mention all of the seasonal snacks that are available nearby. Goebbert’s Farms
Goebbert’s Farms has two locations in Illinois, their Hampshire location and the one in South Barrington. With over 200 acres, this family-owned pumpkin patch and farm market have plenty of activities for all age groups. Not only can you participate in pumpkin picking, but you can check out the zoo, the corn maze, and of course a delicious seasonal snack! Dave’s Pumpkins
Focused on growing the best pumpkins in Huntley, Dave’s Pumpkins has been in northern Illinois since 1975. This family ran pumpkin patch offers pumpkins, gourds, corn shocks, delicious cider donuts and so much more. The pricing here is simple, about $8 per pumpkin so you don’t have to worry about admission fees. Konow’s Corn Maze
Another great place to go pumpkin picking is at Konow’s Corn Maze in Home Glen, Illinois. Not only do they have activities for children like an animal farm, fun rides, and an indoor playland, but they also have a ton of local activities listed in their events tab. Their website even says that they will give you a discount on the admission price if you bring two cans of food. Johansen Farms
A little over an hour away from Chicago and in the southwest suburbs of Bolingbrook, Illinois is Johansen Farms. Around Halloween time you can even take your children here to go trick-or-treating in a safe environment and participate in a costume contest. One of my favorite parts about this activity is that all of these farms are so different and you can get a different experience every time.
