How to Beat the Post Vacation Blues – Stop Feeling Underwhelmed When You Return from a Trip
by jazminmarie
Have you ever returned home from a trip and immediately dreaded the long wait until the next one? That is called the post-vacation blues and I have felt the same way too. Post-vacation blues is the underwhelming feeling when you’re about to return to your normal daily routine from a vacation. Here are my 5 best tips on how to cure the post-vacation blues:
5 Steps to Beat Post Vacation Blues
Start planning your next trip.
The first thing I recommend is diving into researching your next vacation. There is nothing I love more than just letting my imagination run free and planning itineraries that are for the future. The process starts with me scrolling on social media and to get inspiration, but the process doesn’t end there. Planning so well in advance allows you to know the best times to visit the location and which itineraries you would like to create giving you a better advantage as a traveler.
If you’re in the process of planning an upcoming trip, make sure to check my other blog posts that include all of my best travel planning tips. I’ve written some helpful post to include what to do if your flight is canceled, how to prepare for long travel days and even some tips on how to start a travel fund with no money down.
Find some events happening locally to you.
The second thing I recommend is checking out what events are happening locally to you. Do people travel to your location? As a Chicago local, I remind myself that there are events that happened here that people fly to see; reminding yourself that people come to visit your location for vacation will allow you to be a little bit more aware of the events you have nearby nearby.
There’s also free events that happen in most major cities. I’ve created a few free USA travel guides to help inspire you to travel more. Fill your itinerary with these free admission events so you don’t have to break the bank when you travel.
Splurge on a vacation in your home town.
Have you ever consider planning a vacation in your hometown? One way that you could beat the post-vacation blues is my planning a vacation from the area that you already living in. Besides the benefit of you already being familiar with the area, this hometown vacation gives you a new perspective because you’re able to splurge on the things that you normally wouldn’t. If you’re a budget traveler when you see a new location, imagine splurging a little bit on a hotel this time with a view? The opportunities are endless.
Reflect on what is different.
Next, I would recommend that you take a moment to reflect on what is so different about the version of you on vacation. It’s true that I feel like another woman on vacation, but what about the new environment brings out a more confident version of myself? Answering this question about your self will allow you to feel more connected to who you want to be in life.
Understandably your lifestyle and budget maybe a huge factor on why you don’t take vacations more frequently. As someone who was struggling to incorporate more travel into my life before, it wasn’t until I learned about budget traveling that those opportunities revealed themselves to me. I’ve written a few posts on how to start a travel budget with no money, the alternatives I use in my home to save money and other travel planning tips like my free USA travel guides; use this blog post as inspiration to help you with your travel budget faster.
Consider transitioning to a digital nomad so that you can travel more.
I mentioned previously that I was struggling to incorporate travel in my life, it’s because work was my life! I spent every waking moment at work and if I wasn’t at work, it was too late to get anything done. Even though I had Paid Time Off (PTO) that I earned, there were so many hoops to jump through in order to properly use them and everything was difficult. It definitely wasn’t an environment that allowed you to have a passion about anything else; which is why I need to change my environment. If this sounds like you, I have some resources that can help you change your life.
It’s true that there is a transitional period before you can fully depend on your income as a digital nomad; I did the same thing. I have shared some resources for women who are interested in finding remote work so they can travel more frequently. You can read all of my digital nomad blog posts where I include remote work opportunities, travel planning tips and other resources that were helpful for me and my journey.
